The holidays afford us so many amazing opportunities to spend quality time with our loved ones carrying on holiday traditions we treasure. One of those time-honored traditions is baking Christmas cookies with our kids. The joy and laughter and sheer sounds of delight while mixing all our favorites make for such special memories…and lots of precious and funny photos! This year we wanted to share with you one of our favorite cookie recipes and hope that you will in turn share your family’s favorite as well.
Rolled Sugar Cookies
· 1 cup sugar
· 1 cup margarine or butter, softened
· 3 TBSP milk
· 1 tsp vanilla
· 1 egg
· 3 cups Pillsbury Best All-Purpose Flour, or unbleached
· 1 ½ tsp baking powder
· ½ tsp salt
· Sugar if desired, ½ cup
In a large bowl combine 1 cup sugar, margarine or butter, milk, vanilla, and egg. Blend well.
Lightly spoon flour into the measuring cup and level off cup. Add baking powder & salt into the flour and mix well. Add to creamed mixture and mix well.
Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 1 hour for easier handling.
Heat oven to 400 degrees.
On a lightly floured surface roll dough out to 1/8th thickness.
Cut with floured cookie cutters, placing the cookies 1 inch apart on an ungreased baking sheet.
Sprinkle with sugar and bake at 400 degrees for 5 to 9 minutes, or until edges are light brown.
Immediately remove from cookie sheet.
Makes 5-6 dozen cookies.
Once cooled, grab a tall glass of milk, and enjoy together!!
Oh, how we love creating these special memories together and spending our time together as a family. Blessings abound this season. Cherish every moment you share with family and friends. But most of all, don’t get caught up in the chaos…make time for those you love.
