Here's How to Remodel your Bathroom in a Single Weekend!!!

Are you itching for an update to your bathroom?  Bathrooms often serve as one of the most important rooms of the house when it comes to both the amount of time that’s spent in the room and how it’s styled.  You’ll be shocked at how easy these simple steps are when it comes to transforming your bathroom into a personal oasis.

Start with a deep clean.

First thing’s first.  You should never remodel without giving the room a proper deep clean, first.  While the bathroom might be one of the smaller rooms in the house, it’s also one of the dirtiest.  Make sure you thoroughly clean:

  • ·        the toilet
  • ·        all of the surfaces
  • ·        the bathtub and shower
  • ·        the faucet
  • ·        the doorknobs and door
  • ·        the walls

Don’t just look for the dirt and dust, but also the hard water spots, rust stains in the bath and the toilet and residue on the tiles and caulk.  Once the bathroom is clean and ready for the remodel, you’ll also have a better idea of what is in need of an update.

Add a fresh coat of paint.

Once the walls are all wiped off and clean, it’s time for new paint!  Finding the right tone for a paint color can make all the difference and shouldn’t be taken too lightly.  If you’re looking for a more overall eccentric or vibrant look, bold colors are the way to go!  You could also invest in wallpaper!  If you’re wanting a clean, fresh, new start, stick to whites and other neutrals that will make the room look bigger and brighter, while also allowing you more freedom with the rest of the remodel.

Update the counters and surfaces.

If the surfaces in your bathroom are dated, now is the time to redo these as well!  While this part of the remodel can, at times, be paired with a fairly expensive price tag, there are fortunately many ways to replace the countertops on a budget.  Before replacing everything, make sure the drawers and vanities can’t be a part of your vision with a can of paint or a new stain.  Keeping what already exists and giving it a facelift will be the quickest and least expensive route to take.  If they are past the point of repair, large hardware stores offer many standard-sized vanities that can easily be installed without the help and cost of a professional.

If your tile is cracked or outdated, you can update this yourself as well.  Rip the tile out and replace it with simple materials, that are sure to stay in styles, such as porcelain or slate.

Change out your hardware.

This is a simple, and inexpensive update whose impact shouldn’t be underestimated!  Adding new hardware to your bathroom will instantly transform its look and feel.  Start with outdated cabinet knobs and, from there, you can find corresponding hardware for your towel rods, drawer pulls and faucets.  If you’re looking for a classic look, stick to traditional porcelain or a subtle bronze.  To add a more contemporary feel, consider nickel or a glossy metal.

Create functional and appealing storage.

Adding storage solutions and baskets under the sink and throughout the drawers will allow you to organize more efficiently, while also giving your cabinets an aesthetically appealing look.  And since bathrooms are naturally small, think about utilizing height.  Adding a shelving unit above the toilet will lend ample opportunity to store much-needed items, without jeopardizing space.

Replace your light fixtures.

Does your bathroom currently have enough light?  If so, you can replace the fixtures easily without any electrical issues.  For a classy and elegant look, take a chance on a fancy chandelier that will perfectly highlight all of the impressive features in your new and improved room.  If you’re looking for better light to get ready yourself, adding sconces along the side of your vanity mirror will go a long way.

Save the décor for last.

Once the structural remodeling is done, it’s time to decorate!  Whether you have every last detail already planned out or you’re waiting for inspiration when all is said and done, once all of the cleaning, painting, and installation is finished, the real fun can begin!  Saving the décor for last allows you to put the perfect final touches on your new and improved bathroom, while also allowing you time to change your mind if you find new inspiration along the way!

While bathroom updates might seem overwhelming, they can be easy, efficient, and cost-effective.  Giving your bathroom the remodel it deserves just might be the best thing you do with your weekend this winter!
