How to Choose the Right Area Rug for your Beaufort Home!

Lowcountry homeowners often think of making major changes when they consider improving their homes. Choosing paint colors, couches, window coverings, and accessories can be exhausting. The area or accent rug, however, can make a big difference & statement with minimal effort.
With their history dating back centuries, area rugs are a great and affordable way to only update a room, but really bring it all together and make a statement. Here are some tips on finding the right rug for your Beaufort area home.
Color
Would you prefer something subtle, bold, or somewhere in the middle? You might not know until you see it. If the pattern of your room is busy, you might consider a single color rug that compliments your current furnishings and pulls the look together.
In most cases, if you want a multi-color rug, you'll want to select it first, and then build your furniture and accessories around the area rug.
Size
Larger does not always mean better, especially in living rooms and dining rooms. If you're furnishing a dining room or living room, be sure to add 6 feet to the table area of your dining room table. In the case of a 3' x 6' dining room table, you'll need a carpet that measures 9' x 12'. Dining room chairs should be able to be pulled back from the table without the legs extending beyond the rug.
If possible, all furniture in the living room should have its front legs on the rug. On all 3 sides of the bed, it is best to have at least 3 or 4 feet of open rug.
You can easily calculate rug size by measuring a room then subtracting 1.5 feet. A 9-inch-wide area of floor will remain exposed on either side. Remember, however, that most rugs on the market come in standard sizes: 6' x 9', 8' x 10', 9' x 12', 10' x 14', and 12' x 15'. Find the closest size to the one you need if you don't want something made-to-order.
Texture
It is important to have layers in a design, and a rug adds texture while also enhancing the design profile.
A room can be made more enjoyable and richer by mixing textures, and by paying attention to the texture of the rug itself. It can set the mood of the room! Make sure you aim for contrast and let the finishes of your existing furniture guide you. It's best to go with something smooth and hard for a velvet couch, while a sleek leather sofa looks great on a thick, fluffy pile.
Make your choice based on factors like durability and how easy it is to clean. Also consider whether you prefer synthetic or natural fibers.
Price
An heirloom rug can cost thousands, but that doesn't mean you have to blow your budget.
Stores like Target, Lowe's, and Home Depot, as well as online stores, are great places to turn to for inexpensive rugs that reflect the latest trends as well as some classic versions.
